I read this from a blog yesterday:

I know we could stir up a lot of debate around what happened at Tiger Woods’ press conference. Especially if we discussed whether he meant it, the format, and all the other juicy details that the public seems to be so obsessed with these days.

But we aren’t TMZ or The View who profit from trashing, analyzing, and questioning everything. And we don’t exploit the pain of others.

So here are my simple thoughts.

I unashamedly support Tiger, can’t wait for him to play golf again, and pray that his marriage survives this crisis. I’m 100% in his corner.

What stood out to me on Friday? It was the people sitting in the front row.

His Mom who he hugged right after. A top executive from Nike whose company has refused to bail on him. And one of his best friends, fellow golfer Notah Begay, who has stood by Tiger since his college days.

The front row statement was profound. On the peaks, in the deepest valleys, we stand with our son, friend, and colleague. Let the crap hit the fan, we aren’t going anywhere.

We could all learn a lesson from that.

Who is in your front row and are they cheering you on and supporting you no matter what? Maybe it starts with us being on the front row for someone else.

When the news hit on January 12th that Haiti had a devastating 7.0 magnitude earthquake, we knew that we needed to respond as a church. As there were so many organizations that were starting Haiti Relief funds, we prayerfully found a great organization called OneDaysWages. They are an organization that raises awareness and funds and partners with great existing organizations. The thing that we really liked about them was their transparency. As we began to talk with them the day after the earthquake, they were able to setup a page for us so that our community could raise relief funds for Haiti. We encourage people to use this link to not only donate themselves but to share the link with others, as people don’t know which organizations to trust during this time.

We have been blown away by the response of people giving generously for the tragedy in Haiti. So far, we’ve raised over $3000 and we’re praying that it doesn’t stop there. Please continue to pray for and share this opportunity to respond.

One more thing … as the news of Haiti will soon disappear from the headlines of CNN and newspapers, it will be even more important to pray and give. About 6 years ago, when the Indian Ocean tsunami hit, I wrote a blog post that is just as relevant today as it was then in regards to donations and relief/rebuilding efforts. Read it … continue to pray and give and don’t let your heart become apathetic to the needs of the people of God.
