Beautiful Brazil

Well, the Brazil has just gotten back safely from the mission trip … Praise God! It was an amazing time in Brazil and we look forward to sharing the stories of the relationships that we built there. But in the meantime, I wanted to share with you what I wrote in their church bulletin to thank them and encourage them.

Beautiful. That’s the one word that keeps coming up in conversations with those who came from America. We see

A Prayer of Disturbance

Disturb us, Lord, when
We are too well pleased with ourselves,
When our dreams have come true
Because we have dreamed too little,
When we arrived safely
Because we sailed too close to the shore.

Disturb us, Lord, when
With the abundance of things we possess
We have lost our thirst
For the waters of life;
Having fallen in love with life,
We have ceased to dream of eternity

In Loving Memory of Josephine “Joey” Ann Lee

As some of you may have heard, one of our congregation members (John Mark and Patty Lee) lost their baby on October 9, 2009 in the mother’s womb when she was only 21 weeks old. We are continually praying for them as they grieve the loss of their child. The amazing thing is that they are using this as an opportunity to make a difference because of the difference that “Joey” has made in their lives. They are asking…

Together We Are One

So, despite the fact that this season’s American Idol was the worst season ever (in my opinion and others), there was a redeeming factor in the season’s finale. It happened to be Simon Cowell’s last night on the show as a judge, and one of the things that they did to thank him for his contribution was for the past season winners (all 9 in order) and other contestants to sing him a song. It was a touching moment

To God Be the Glory

About a month or two ago, we showed a video in service about a guy name Zac Smith, who was a pastor at a church and was battling cancer. It was a great testimony. Today, May 16, 2010, Zac Smith stepped into eternity and went home to be with Jesus. Our prayers go out to his family. May his story leave a legacy for all who follow Jesus.

God is God … God is good … To God be the glory.

How Do I Know God’s Will for My Life?

John Ortberg is one of my favorite authors. Just found out that he has a blog. I read this blog post and resonated with the way that he see’s how we see God’s will in our lives. Check it out (bold mine):

I was at commencement at a Christian college this weekend, and it reminded me of the question millions of young people are asking this time of year.
We never grow out of that question: Who

2010 Pathway Singles Retreat

Praise God for a great retreat!

We want to especially thank Pastor Sam Park as well as the retreat team for making this a memorable retreat. May God continue to refuel us for His sake!

4 Formulas for Relationships

Yesterday, I preached a message in the sermon series called “30 Days to Live” about the relationships that we have with people. If we received news that we only had 30 days to live, we would undoubtedly spend our last days in spending time with people and reconciling relationships. Based on all the encouragement I received, I think it really struck a chord with how we aren’t taking time to invest in the relationships of people that God has…

Come Awake

We had a lot of special elements for our Easter Sunday service today and one of them was a video that we showed right before the message. This is a video that was made by IgniterMedia, a Dallas based media group that produced videos for churches. They called us and asked if they could come last Sunday and shoot some video of our church members. My children had already been in one of their videos before, so I thought it would be great. Well, the video is called “Come Awake” and I love it! Not just because our church members are in it, but ever since I first saw this video, I have been singing this song nonstop. The chorus is so catchy and whenever I find myself singing it during the day, I am reminded that we are called to come awake because of what Christ has done for us. I guarantee this song will be in your head after you view it again … but that’s a good thing, Church!

Surprised and Blessed

Today was my birthday (one shy of the big 4-0) and it was a pretty amazing day. It was a day full of surprises and blessings:

1. I woke up in the morning to about 5-6 inches of snow (in Dallas, in March, on the first day of spring!). We had a white Christmas this year and now a white birthday! Hoping that I don’t get any white hairs though.

2. My kids all gave me cards and each of…
