God’s Masterpiece

Posted by Pastor Andrew

During one of my devotionals for this week, I came across a familiar passage in Ephesians 2. It’s a passage that I’ve read over and over on numerous occasions; I grew up singing some if these verses as a child in Sunday school; and I distinctly remember extensively studying this passage while I was in seminary. The Apostle Paul writes of how we were at one point dead in our sins, but how God, in the richness of his mercy and love towards us, gave us new life in Christ. Our Father in heaven poured out the gift of His grace and kindness upon us, as it states in verses 8-9, “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” God has graciously given to us His gift of salvation, and He calls to simply receive it by faith on His merit, not ours.

And Paul goes on and ends this passage in verse 10 with this amazing truth, “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:8-10 ESV) In other words, we are God’smasterpiece in the making. We are all works in progress, and He’s not done chiseling us into the beautiful work of art that He’s envisioned for us from the very beginning. And like a seasoned Master sculpter, He knows every nuance, every crack, every crevice, and every blemish, but He also knows what the finished product will look like in the end. And He will continue to do a work on us until His work is finished in us. So my friends, be patient, but also take comfort in knowing that the Master sculpter doesn’t create junk; He only produces masterpiecesof which you are one.

I came across this video entitled, “God’s Chisel” that I wanted to share with you. And my sincere prayer is that you would be encouraged as you watch this, and that it would be a reminder of the work that He is doing in your life every single day. Remember, you are God’s Masterpiece in the making.
