Celebrate God
Posted by Pastor Andrew
January is now behind us and we’re almost halfway through February. And I know it’s cliche, but I have to say, time really does seem to fly by. Football season is officially over, the Saints won their first Super Bowl , and now our attention is towards the other big day in this month – VALENTINES DAY. Now, I’m sure you’ve noticed all the commercials on T.V. and radio, encouraging us (and by this I’m talking primarily to all the men) to go out and buy that big bouquet of roses, that box of heart shaped chocolate, or that diamond pendant with the matching earrings for that special someone in our lives. In essence, it’s the one day of the year where we intentionally celebrate relationships. But the thing is, the relationship cannot be fully celebrated unless it’s in good standing. Imagine a couple going out to a nice romantic dinner right after a huge argument. The atmosphere and setting may be perfect, but it’s still going to be a rough date with very little celebrating.
And I think in the same way, we should take time this month to intentionally reflect and gauge our relationship with God as well. Are you in good standing with God? Has it been a long time since you’ve spent quality with Him? Is there much to celebrate between you and Him, or has it been kind of awkward? The remarkable thing about our relationship with God is that He’s always willing and wanting for us to draw near to Him despite our mistakes and shortcomings. All He asks is that we come back to Him, back into His loving, merciful, and gracious arms. All it takes is a moment, a prayer, to get our hearts back into good standing with God. So in the midst of this Valentine season, with all the roses, chocolates, and diamonds, be sure to take some time to celebrate the most important relationship in your life, your relationship with God.
